Maps for Sage CRM – Google Maps Setup
Maps for Sage CRM uses Google Maps to display maps and convert CRM addresses into map coordinates.
This guide explains how to create a Google Cloud project, configure two API keys and enter them into Maps for Sage CRM.
Google Maps usage is billed separately by Google and is not included in your Maps for Sage CRM subscription.
Before you Begin
You will need:
- A Google account with permission to manage the organisation’s Google Cloud project and billing.
- Administrator access to Maps for Sage CRM.
- The website addresses users use to access CRM.
- The CRM server’s public outbound IP address, available from your IT administrator.
Use an organisation-controlled Google account and project. If a partner carries out the setup, agree who will own the project, manage billing and maintain access.
Create or select a Google Cloud project
- Open the Google Cloud Console at https://console.cloud.google.com/.
- Sign in with the appropriate Google account.
- Open the project selector.
- Create a project, or select an existing project intended for this installation.
- Give a new project a recognisable name, such as “Maps for Sage CRM”.
- Create or select a Google Cloud project
- Check that the correct project is selected before enabling services or creating keys.
- Enable billing
- Link the project to an active Google Cloud billing account.
Google Maps requires billing to be enabled for normal use, even where usage falls within a free allowance. Check Google’s current pricing before proceeding. developers.google.com
Enable the required APIs
In the selected project, open APIs & Services, then Library.
Search for and enable:
- Maps JavaScript API — displays the map in the browser.
- Geocoding API — converts postal addresses into coordinates.
- Places API (New) — enables searching for places and addresses from the map’s search box.
Check that all three appear in the project’s enabled APIs.
Create the map display API key
- Open APIs & Services, then Credentials.
- Select Create credentials, then API key.
- Open the new key’s settings.
- Give it a recognisable name, such as “CRM Maps — Map Display”.
- Under Application restrictions, select Websites.
- Add the website addresses from which users will open Maps.
- Under API restrictions, select Restrict key and allow both Maps JavaScript API and Places API (New).
- Save the changes.
Website restrictions protect browser keys by limiting where they can be used.
If users access CRM at:
https://crm.example.com
Add:
https://crm.example.com/*
Include each hostname users actually use, including a separate test address where applicable. If an address uses a non-standard port, include that port.
Restrict the key to the necessary website origins. Avoid relying on a particular CRM page path, because browsers may send only the website origin to Google.
Create the address lookup API key
- Create another API key.
- Open its settings.
- Name it, for example, “CRM Maps — Address Lookup”.
- Under Application restrictions, select IP addresses.
- Add the public outbound IP address used by the CRM server.
- Under API restrictions, select Restrict key and allow Geocoding API.
- Save the changes.
Use the public address Google sees when the server connects to the internet. This may be the organisation’s firewall or gateway address rather than an address assigned directly to the server.
If there are several possible outbound addresses, ask your IT administrator which addresses must be allowed.
Do not apply website restrictions to this key. Server-side geocoding uses IP restrictions, while browser map display uses website restrictions. developers.google.com
Google Map ID
A Map ID identifies a Google map configuration. It is separate from both API keys.
Maps for Sage CRM uses DEMO_MAP_ID when no Map ID is entered. This allows initial testing without creating your own Map ID. Google documents this ID for testing; use your own Map ID for a live installation.
To create your own:
- Open Google Maps Platform in Google Cloud Console.
- Open Map Management.
- Create a Map ID.
- Give it a recognisable name.
- Select JavaScript as the map type.
- Choose Raster or Vector.
- Save and copy the Map ID.
A custom cloud map style is optional. You can create a Map ID without designing a new style.
